I grew up on a farm in Iowa. Farmers hardly ever hired anything done. We did it ourselves. That philosophy and work ethic is what drives me in my business. I believe that a business can only be as good as the people who work for you. While I don't have any full time employees, the people that I do hire to do the specialty trades, and to help me when I need it, are true professionals and highly skilled at what they do. They answer to me and maintain my high level of workmanship in all my projects.
As I said, I grew up on a farm so I have been doing this type of work virtually my whole life. I've been a licensed and recognized business since 2003. I decided to take the leap into self-employment when my "side jobs" became more time consuming than my regular job. I started out just doing handyman services (hence the name), but it quickly escalated to where I needed to become licensed, bonded, and insured, to be legal. I decided on a remodel and repair license as I hadn't received any requests for new homes, and I liked the challenge of creating new designs into older homes all while adhering to building codes and regulations, but making the remodel look like it was always there. As my business grew, I started receiving requests for new homes. If the customer could finance it themselves, I'd hire on as their project manager manage the build. Eventually I started getting requests from people who were going to finance the project. For this scenario, lending institutions require a General Contractor to run the show, so in 2018 I got my General's license. It was a decision I've never regretted.
Country Handyman is based on the belief that my customers' needs are of the utmost importance. As a result, a high percentage of my business is from repeat customers and referrals. Word of mouth can make you or break you. After this many years in business, I'd say word of mouth is working for me me!
I firmly believe in the saying, "I would rather make $1.00 from 100 customers than $100.00 from 1." I've also always stressed that I'm in this business to make a living, not a killing. I truly love what I do and work on every project as if it were for me and my family.
I provide a number of diverse services along with the construction/remodeling services. I have a tractor with multiple attachments for digging, grading, raking, and/or snowplowing. I have very good specialty people I can call for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, concrete, roofing, and a multitude of other professions to provide specialized services. So I can be your "one stop shopping" for anything you might need. Also, as my names says, I do handyman services. So if you need a water heater replaced, a faucet fixed or replaced, new doors hung, gutters cleaned, or anything you don't feel comfortable tackling yourself, call me. I can do a lot of things, all you have to do is ask. Every project, except the cabinetry, in the photo gallery was built by me, including the custom log and roughsawn woodwork.
I welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and deliver you the best service I am capable of.
